Need help identifying purple mass below knee!

My SO has had a mass between his knee and shin for almost 5 years now. It feels hard and does not cause him any pain. It is raised off the skin and is slightly smaller than a dime. I am very curious to find out what this mass is or what has caused it. Especially since within the last two months a second hole has appeared. The only medical history he has is a ruptured spleen from a motor vehicle accident. He does however smoke cigarettes.

It is most likely a subcutaneous cyst, however the color is a bit puzzling to me. Are those puncture holes in it? Did he try to puncture and drain it?

Not puncture holes. He hasn't messed with it whatsoever. The one hole has been there since he first saw it.

Also, a doctor a few years back told him it was nothing to worry about, unless it got smaller. He didn't give any diagnosis or other information.

Looking at it more, I think its most likely a sebaceous cyst. If there is no pain then its nothing to worry about. They are pretty common.
