Bald patch with pimples

A few years ago I lost kidney function and was in the hospital for 3 weeks, and on dialysis for 3 months. While in the hospital I picked a scab on my scalp and that spot is still bald today.

I have been healthy now for four years.

The other day I got my hair done and my stylist said I have a dime sized bald spot with several small pimples inside it.

Can anyone explain this?

Could be a simple staph infection. You should go to a doctor just to get some antibiotics on it / rule out mrsa.

Sounds like you have some scar tissue on your scalp. When you picked the scab on your scalp you damaged the healing skin underneath. Most people don't realize that our bodies create scabs to protect the granulation tissue (healing skin) underneath it. When you pick a scab if can often cause scarring, or make a scar that would be small bigger. This is most likely what happened to you. The reason there is no hair is because scar tissue prevents hair follicles from growing, which is what is causing the bald spot.

Thank you. I haven't picked at the recent spot. I'm curious as to what could have caused it this time.
