My friend found a dime sized red lump a bit to the right of her clitoris in the shower this morning. its swollen to about 1.5cm. A little sensitive, but it doesnt hurt. The redness is isolated to the lump. I'd really like to know if it is urgent she seeks help so I can tell her so. All of what i describe is what she told me and I cant verify how accurate it is, but shes worried and im worried for her.
This is most likely a Bartholin's Gland Cyst. On either side of the labia majora is a called a Bartholin's gland. Occasionally the ducts that empty the gland can become blocked causing the gland to develop a cyst. Sometimes they can go away on their own, and other times they can become infected and need to be drained by a doctor. Based on the description you gave, redness around the area it may be infected. Its nothing life threatening, but you should tell your friend to go see an OBGYN to get an examination and antibiotics.
